¿A qué te dedicas?

To what do you dedicate yourself? What do you do (for a living)?

¿A qué te dedicas? is how Spanish speakers ask “what do you do?” when they mean your job. It sounds friendlier than ¿Cuál es tu trabajo?, which feels like a form. Answer with soy plus your job (soy enfermero), or trabajo por mi cuenta if you work for yourself.

Sorry, I don't think we've met. I'm Damián, Sergio's friend from university. And how do you know him?

  2. Renata

¿A qué te dedicas?

Nice to meet you, I'm Renata; we worked together a few years ago at a travel agency. And you? What do you do?

I'm a nurse at a hospital downtown. I work nights most of the week, so this party is a luxury for me.
